Tribute to my Sangeetham Teacher
Today I came to know about the demise of my Sangeetham Teacher Smt. Amritavalli Taayaar  who taught me for nearly 9 years. It was my mother who put me under her tutelage when I was 11 years old. Initially I was reluctant because my fingers would really hurt with the strings of the Veena and I couldn't go out to play with my friends. It would not have been possible were it not for my teacher’s immense patience and strict discipline. Now I realize that any form of fine arts can positively affect our mental, physical and emotional well-being.
I admit I did not have the sahityaanubhavam when I was young but now I think I am playing with more devotion. I recollect my teacher singing “ Gagananiki ilaku bahu dooram bani naado” of “Nagumomu” with so much bhaavam or emotive appeal that tears rolled down her eyes many times. I think it cannot be forced into a rendition and it must come naturally.
Paying homage to my teacher, I hereby resolve and motivate myself to practice Veena regularly.
